What are Skills?

Skill is a term that encompasses the knowledge, competencies, and abilities to perform operational tasks. Skills are developed through life and work experiences and they can also be learned through study. There are different types of skills and some may be easier to access for some people than others, based on things like physical abilities and intelligence. Skills can also be measured, and levels determined by skill tests. Skills are what make you confident and independent in life and are essential for success. It might take determination and practice, but almost any skill can be learned or improved.

There are several skill categories that you might decide to develop. Below are examples of types of skills and the kinds of competencies you could gain by mastering a skill type:

Technical Skills 

Technical skills are particular skills needed for a job. There are two types of technical skills – specialized technical skills and basic technical skills. 

Specialized technical skills are for doing a specific job, such as being able to use a nail hammer to build a house. The second type relates to basic technical skills, such as having a driver’s license.

You would list these two types of technical skills in your CV.

The basis of such skills is the personal qualities or attitudes required to perform the task. Such skills are developed from childhood through experience at different levels of life.

Hard Skill

Hard Skill is also called technical Skill. Hard skills are basic knowledge and qualifications related to a particular profession or work, requiring an employee to perform his duties efficiently. Hard skills help you identify how suitable a job seeker is for his job —for example, a graphics designer’s ability to design using the necessary tools.

  • A degree (or other academic qualification)
  • An industry-specific certification.
  • Coding ability.
  • Foreign language skills.
  • Typing speed.
  • SEO marketing.

Soft Skill?

Soft skills are a person’s personal qualities, which may help his job, career, or work; for example, a graphics designer’s creativity. Through this Skill, he will be able to enhance the design by making it suitable for everyone.
